Reader’s Question:

I am a single mom with a 3 year old daughter. I am currently employed and I am made to choose between 2 health insurance companies in Honolulu for my health insurance card. Are there any guidelines that will help me decide which type of health insurance policy is right for me?

Tommy

Honolulu, HI

Thanks for asking, Tommy.

For me, the most important thing to consider when choosing a health insurance company in Honolulu is the financial stability of the company. You don’t want to end up unable to use up your benefits in the future simply because you insurer has closed down. You also need to check if the insurance company has adequate providers such as doctors, hospitals and diagnostics centers, which offer good and reliable service to their patients. If your insurance company lacks providers, you might end up inconvenienced and unattended especially during emergency situations.

Secondary to these things are the costs and coverage. You have to compare what each company in Honolulu is offering for a health insurance policy. You need to assess further the premium rates, coverage and benefits, convenience in access to after hours and emergency care, out of pocket costs such as co-pays and deductibles, and most importantly exclusions and limitations (which normally come in fine print for most policies). It wouldn’t really matter much whether or not it is a group or individual health insurance policy, as long as you take time to understand the health insurance coverage being offered to you. On top of that, you can compare the benefits each company offers for the protection of your family members, especially since you are a single parent.

Reader’s Question:

I am an African-American in Hawaii. As I am considered to be a minority, is there any insurance company that offers cheap life insurance policies to minorities like us?

Lara

Honolulu, HI

Thank you for asking Lara.

It is good that you asked since statistics show that not so many of the members of the minority groups such as African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and the native Americans have a life insurance policy.
Although most of the minorities nowadays have the buying power, not all have access to information on life insurances available due to the fact that there aren’t too many life insurance agents who are from the minority groups. In your case, only about 2.5% of licensed insurance agents in the U.S. population are African-Americans.

However, be delighted that despite this fact, you can still have access to information on life insurance in Hawaii by relying on the internet. You can shop around for detailed information on the types of life insurance you can choose. Most life insurance policy offers and discounts are regardless of race anyway. As long as you are in perfect health and have the capacity to pay the regular premiums, then it will be very easy for you to get one at a very cheap price. Most people in the best health can get the cheapest life insurance rates called “super preferred”. Be aware that there will be a medical exam for this.

Try to locate the zip code box in this page so that you can type in your zip code in Hawaii and get to shop for insurance companies in your area and get free life insurance quotes.

Have fun shopping! Cheers!

Reader’s Question:

Is it always the best option to get the cheapest life insurance policy that is being offered to me in Hawaii?

Adrian

Honolulu, HI

That’s a very good question, Adrian.

A few things you might need to remember about life insurance…Cheapest may not always be the best option you can take. You might want to check out the period of coverage. Recently, the cheapest life insurance out there is most likely a five-year term. Even if it is affordable, it only lasts for a period of 5 years.

Sit and talk with a local Hawaii insurance agent or representative for you to determine the coverage you need based on your lifestyle and present circumstances.

Straightforward, the term life insurance policy is the cheapest policy available. However, term life policies are usually going to terminate after a period of time. It might not be long enough for you to be able to get your money saved, kids raised, house paid off, among others.
Consider many issues of your current situation, such as your age. If you are already 30 years old, you don’t buy a 10 year term just because it comes cheaper than the 30 year term. My brother did that and he became uninsurable and has no insurance now that his 10 year term policy expired.

Get the picture?

It won’t harm you if you start shopping from internet websites to verify rates versus terms and types. You can start off by typing your zip code on the form provided on this page for free quotes.
